Alex Akidiva is a result-oriented food systems expert with 10 years’ experience in working with local communities to drive climate action, transformation of food, land, and water systems while delivering on strategic approaches driving sustainable food systems, green growth & circular economy, access to agri-finance, and Market systems development for sustainable rural development (www.linkedin.com/in/alex-akidiva-7b4699150).
Alex is a trained aquatic scientist as well as food systems fellow by Egerton and Wageningen Universities respectively. Currently, he is working as a programme officer at Micro-Enterprises Support Programme Trust (MESPT) where he is greatly involved in implementation of livelihood and market systems initiatives within the agricultural sector. Previously, he served as a research assistant at the division of research and extension at Egerton university, where he was involved in implementation of various food systems projects. Besides this, Alex is passionate in promoting youths and women engagement in agriculture sector through the ATVET model targeting transfer of skills & knowledge and attitude change toward agriculture sector.
Alex is proactive in designing innovativeness approaches around management and conservation of soil and water resources for coexistence of nature and people. He is dedicated to building capacities of small holder farmers in increasing farm productivity while conserving nature by embracing equity, diversity & inclusion concepts for community engagement. This ultimately will boost household resilience against climate change, overcome food and nutritional insecurity while conserving the environment and biodiversity.
