CALL FOR NOMINATION
EMPOWERING AFRICAN WOMEN AS TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERS IN CLIMATE CHANGE
Program Overview
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) in partnership with the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) has launched the Program titled “Empowering African Women as Transformative Leaders in Climate Change.” The Program aims to enhance women inclusion and diversity at all levels of decision-making to address the climate crisis and shape a sustainable future for all. Women in their diversity are change agents that must included as active participants in finding climate leadership, policy making processes, sustainable solutions and foster climate resilience. Furthermore, women are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis and therefore must not be seen as passive victims. When women lead, action follows, thus the need of putting the lives of women and girls at the heart of policymaking on climate finance, adaptation and mitigation. This is important if Africa is to realize the AU Agenda 2063, the AU Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (2022 – 2032) and the Paris Agreement goals. As African countries are confronting the multidimensional effects of climate change, including women’s perspectives, skills, talents and ingenuity will increase the collective ability to innovate and create solutions for the benefit of humanity.
Through this Program,
Program Objectives
· Harness the untapped potential of women’s transformational leadership and diversity in addressing climate change at different levels.
· Peer-to-peer learning and experience sharing among the selected Women Leaders and other Women Leaders from other jurisdictions.
· Enhanced capacity of women leaders in leadership, communications, and negotiation skills.
· Increased visibility and recognition of African Women Leaders voice on climate change issues at the national, regional and international levels.
Selection Process
The participants in the Program will be selected through a competitive process as set out hereinbelow:
1. Nominations:
a) One can be nominated by a government institution, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Academia, or the private sector. The nomination shall be vide a signed Letter of Nomination clearly stating why the nominee is best suited for the program with a one page CV of the person being nominated attached,
b) One can also nominate herself by submitting a Letter of Nomination stating clearly why you think you are best suited for the Program and a one pager CV.
2. Screening of Nominees: All nominations will be screened and evaluated against the set eligibility criteria to shortlist those will move to the next stage.
3. Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a Panel and the finalist will be identified.
4. Induction: An induction session will be organized for the selected Women Leaders for orientation and deepening understanding on the program’s objectives and expectations.
5. Participation in the Program for a period of twelve (12) months.

Eligibility:
The selection criteria include:
- African women who have demonstrated keen interest and leadership in climate change policy or advocacy.
- Participants working in diverse sectors including in national government, civil societies, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector.
- Must have at least a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Have at least five years of working experience
- Committed to advancing gender equality and social inclusion in climate action.
